Description

Ben More the meaning of which is ‘Big Hill’ is set at the foot of the imposing Munro. An ideal location for exploring Breadalbane, Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, as well as Glencoe, Argyll and Perthshire. Surrounded by magnificent scenery and short distance away are Lochs Lubhair (YEWer) and Dochart  where fishing can be arranged.

The cottage is situated 2 miles east of Crianlarich which is easy to reach by bus or train. Crianlarich village shop is well stocked and has a cashline; the area also has a good choice of eating places.

 

The recently refurbished accommodation has 1 double bedroom; 2 twin bedrooms (ensuite) comfortably accommodating six people.  There is a separate bathroom with shower over bath on the landing. Two reception rooms, one with wood burning stove and the second with electric fire.

The newly fitted eat-in kitchen is well equipped with fridge freezer, hob, oven, dishwasher and microwave. A table with 6 comfortable chairs sits in the kitchen area.  A separate utility room with toilet, houses the washer and dryer, a drying rack is available outside and in for the outdoor enthusiasts to dry clothes after a day outside in the Great British weather.

Children can play safely in the enclosed front garden of the property where table and chairs are provided. At the rear of the property you will find Ben More burn waterfall, an idyllic setting for relaxing, taking a picnic, painting or photography.

Children must be supervised at all times around the waters edge and at the rear of the property

Surrounding Area

A gate at the rear of the cottage gives access to a good starting point for climbing Ben More and Stob Binnein. Ben More sits at an altitude of 1174m (3851 ft) Grid Ref> NN43262445 – 2 routes . Route time 4,5 hrs – rote distance 9.32 km OS Landranger Map required. Total Ascent 1347m it sits at a stature of 16  out of 283 munros

The summit of Ben More is a steep sided triangular pyramid with crags mainly restricted to its SE face. There are short steep ridges, NW to Benmore Farm offering an unrelenting route and S to Bealach-eadar-dha Bheinn where Ben More meets Stob Binnein.

The S ridge offers access from both Stob Binnein and the path in Benmore Glen. A third ridge NE is the longest and craggiest, but is a good ascent route which can be accessed from the A85 via a path by the Allt Coire Chaorach through the forest

Directions:- When leaving Crianlarich on the A85 look on the right for the Portnellan Lodge sign, there are bollards to their entrance and adjacent bollards that can be seen in the dark to the entrance of Ben More which is signed. Arrinving from the Killin direction on the A85 look on the left for the large green shed and the bollards at the entrance just before the Portnellan Lodge sign.
