Jane was delighted to have been a part of getting the Blue Jacket Boy’s letter delivered, 98 years late!
I’ve been keenly interested in my own family history for a long time and from childhood could sort my second cousins from my first cousins once removed! A few years ago, I decided to take my interest further, gaining a postgraduate diploma in Genealogical Studies from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, in 2011. As a professional genealogist, I specialise in Scottish family history, which, of course, includes Orkney family history. I can also research English and Welsh family history.
I’m a member of the Association of Professional Genealogist (APG), adhering to their code of ethics, and the Scottish Genealogy Network.
Currently living in Stirling, central Scotland, within easy reach of the major archives in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Jane has an MA Honours degree in French and postgraduate qualifications in librarianship and secondary school teaching through the medium of Welsh. Her working life for the last 30 years or so has been in the public, third and higher education sectors. I have extensive research experience through formal study and my work in the fields of information management, administration and teaching.
My Orkney roots are very important to me and I regularly write articles for the Orkney Family History Society magazine, Sib Folk News. My own family history reaches far beyond Orkney to New Zealand, Canada and Australia as well as those who moved to Glasgow and Salford for work.
