All ages and abilities are catered for and the walks cover interest areas of wildlife, bird watching, drama, photography, art, history, heritage, folklore, tai chi, great gardens, great houses and some great hill walks.
CowalFest Argyll 2016 is organised by the Cowal Walking Festival Association — a voluntary body which draws support from the people, communities, organisations and businesses from throughout the Cowal Peninsula.
For those new to CowalFest, the Committee hope you enjoy taking part in the incredible number of events that they have in our programme this year.
In previous CowalFests, there has been running and cycling events. These have grown over the years and are now being held as major events in their own rights. Dunoon Presents and No Fuss Events have been the prime movers for these and many more such events are planned.
CowalFest is focusing more on core walking related activities with walking events of all grades from some pretty serious hill walks to pleasant strolls through the Cowal countryside. There will be Nordic walking again and there are many of the popular heritage events as well - plus some special outdoor activities and horse riding.
New for CowalFest in 2016 are several health walks for those with less energy or accessibility concerns. The organisers would like these to grow for future years and to help them to support their partners Arthritis Care Scotland and NHS Living It Up by getting more people to join in.
There are a number of new Family Friendly events this year plus there are music, Scottish dancing, ceilidhs, talks and social events (wine tasting and a beer festival) throughout the 10 days.
There will also be an extra special event – come and see theKelpie Maquettes on the Dunoon breakwater - they’ll be on view Saturday the 1st to Sunday the Friday the 14th October.
And don’t forget the CowalFest Opening Day on the 8th October at the Dunoon Pier in partnership with the Dunoon Presents Ultra Marathon.
There will also be a photo competition this year in conjunction with Cowal Camera Club. For more information on this event and activities generally visit the website at http://www.cowalfest.org
If you are planning an October break here in central Scotland why not check out the events being held this year on the CowalFest programme and see if there is something you would like to take part in. Dunoon is about 70m miles away from any of our self-catering holiday cottages and the CowalFest would provide some great family days out while staying in the area.
