Waverley is the world’s last sea-going paddle steamer. In 1975, at the end of her working life she was famously bought for £1 by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society.
For the 2014 season Waverley will be sailing from a number of ports which are within reasonable travelling distance from our area including Glasgow, Oban, Mallaig, Greenock and Helensburgh.
It really is worth considering taking a trip aboard this magnificent and unique vessel while visiting this part of Scotland. Those with an interest in maritime history and engineering can marvel at the workings of the engine and paddles which are open to full public view. Almost all of Waverley’s machinery including the steering and all the main pumps and powered by steam from her two massive oil fired boilers.
Passenengers are well catered for whilst on board with a selection of dining options available and the opportunity to buy a souvenir of your trip in the on-board shop.
This experience will certainly create some long lasting memories for those visitors to Scotland who go on one of Waverley's many excursions.
